Project description:
The Natural History Pavilion (NHP) of the University of Almeria has signposted all its exhibition facilities with ARASAAC signage in order to make it accessible to everyone.
The NHP is a centre whose objectives are bio- and geodiversity research, didactics, collection management and dissemination, using the scientific collections as its main focus.
Among its collections, the biodiversity one stands out, in which through stuffed animals and fossils you can learn about different natural environments and present and past ecosystems. Each of these environments and the display cases that represent them have been marked with ARASAAC pictograms.
On 5 June 2024, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the museum’s signage and cognitive accessibility improvement project was inaugurated.
It is the first cognitively accessible Natural History Pavilion in Spain with ARASAAC pictograms.
This project has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the Asociación Autismo Dárata, the MOMA space and the Cecoual-PHN.
The event was attended by the rector of the University of Almería, José J. Céspedes; the mayoress of Almería, Maria del Mar Vázquez; as well as the president of Autismo Dárata, Rosario Medialdea; Marina Berber, director of Espacio MOMA and the director of Cecoual-PHN, Juan Mª Gisbert.
ARASAAC congratulates all those involved for this great initiative and thanks them for trusting our pictograms to carry it out.
